I'm using RT2500 WLAN [1814:0201] using 'UNSUPPORTED' mode.
It works fine, but I cannot scan any SSID.
It reconnect to my AP automatically, and I can connect to the internet.
Nevertheless, XWLAN does not recognize my WLan driver. 'scan.exe' in
'genmac/bin' dir does not
report anything at all
Any hints ?
Sorry I can't help you at the moment. I have a card that has that
chip but so far I have no idea how to use it.
Could you please explain how you set up 'unsupported' mode as I can't
find any mention of it in the documentation.
I've read the following page and the related links.
http://en.ecomstation.ru/projects/genmac/?action=unsupported
And you can download the driver I'm using here,
http://www.ecomstation.co.kr/komh/download/rt2500.zip
You don't have to invent the wheel again. ^^
Hello could you report this to this group maybe somebody can help better.
news.gmane.org
and then the newsgroup
gmane.org.netlabs.genmac.user
Doug Bisset is collecting NIC's that work in unsupported mode.
Maybe some people can provide assistance.
I know that, but when I posted there, my post was not registered using
newsgroup.
So I posted here.
Hi. Roderick mentioned this, so I took a look. It would be much better
to use the gmane groups, but you do need to use real names, addresses
etc. to be able to post there, and you ned to respond to the e-mail
that they send.
Anyway, I downloaded the suggested rt2500.zip package, and took a
look. It looks, to me, like the included registry file may not be
correct. It is quite different from the ones for the other [1814:xxxx]
devices. If I was going to attempt to make this work, the first thing
I would do, would be to get a new registry export, preferably from
WinXP (then 2000, then VISTA, and even from Win7)on the machine where
you are attempting to use the device. That would give you the best
chance to get it to work properly. If That is not possible, try the
registry export that is included in the GENMAC distribution for the
1814:0301 (which seems to be the same as for the 1814:0302, and the
1814:0401). Just put that registry file into the
...\genmac\driver\WRAPPER_1814_0201 directory, then change the line:
NDIS_SYS = "RT2500.reg"
in \IBMCOM\PROTOCOL.INI to:
NDIS_SYS = "RT61.REG"
or whatever you called your custom registry export.
In fact, from what is said, it seems that the driver itself is
working, if SSID.EXE will actually connect. The problem seems to be to
get XWLAN to recognize it. SSID is not a very good program because it
will only connect to an open access point, it, apparently, knows
nothing about a secure connection. It can be useful to determine if
the GENMAC driver is working, but it isn't good for normal operation.
I think there is something missing in the registry export, that XWLAN
looks for to recognize the device as being a WiFi device. The new
registry export may fix that. If it still refuses to recognize the
device as being WiFi, you probably need to ask in the XWLAN news
group:
Point your news reader to:

and then the newsgroup
gmane.org.netlabs.wlan.general
Hope this helps.
